Midival Punditz is a band that has been existing for long but has been noticed once again now for the work they did for their remix track of the theme music of 'Don' a few months back. Earlier they were also responsible for the soundtrack of the film 'Let's Enjoy' that surprisingly didn't quite get noticed in spite of excellent credentials. With their recent album MIDIVAL PUNDITZ REMIXED, they come together for nine tracks that are expected to set the dance floors on fire. Did someone say Bass? That's exactly what one hears in 'Ali' that is bass...and some more bass, as the voice of a male singer is heard in the background doing an extended 'alaap'. As the 'alaap' is through, the beats come into force with an ever increasing pace promising to throw in a surprise or two at any given juncture. The music continues to build on an element of mystery starts engulfing the listener as the composition picks on pace. By the time the track is 2 minutes through, one starts realizing that the track is mainly about the chants of 'Ali Ali' with some heavy bass, rhythm and pace thrown in to make it an ideal fodder for a dance floor mix. Lyrics do make an appearance after around 3 minutes but in the end what one remembers is a tune that would make everyone put on their dancing shoes. The bass effect continues even later with 'Night' being the next track that the band has in the offering. The mood of 'Ali Ali' is carried forward here as well as the bass combined with a rocking rhythm makes one long for your living room to convert into a dance floor. One can almost sense disco lights flooding the roof and floor of the discotheque, hence creating an atmosphere that is just right for you to hop on to the dance floor. Longest track of the album that lasts more than 10 minutes in duration, 'Night' is dark (pun intended) and happening! It's a mystical beginning to a track this time around as a track (for some strange reasons) titled '136' arrives next. This time around Midival Punditz don't rely on bass (at least in the beginning) and instead focus on creating a sound that could be out of this world. Nevertheless, '136' also gets in a dance floor mix mode soon after. Yet again, one doesn't mind an absence of lyrics, at least at the beginning of the track, as the music itself is good enough to make you dance hard on the tune that comes in two versions. If you are tired of dancing in your feet, you may choose to relax and get your neck swaying as 'Raanjhan' comes next. A constant rhythm is interspersed into a tune that has its long durations of ups and downs as the track comes with different twists and turns to leave the listener guessing on what next would be following. To add to the surprise element, it is almost after 4 minutes that the title of the song 'Raanjhan' is heard first; and that too faintly in the background. This is easily the best of the enterprise so far and the good news is that it also arrives in two versions! After a break, do you find your feet tapping once again? Then blame it on 'Kesariya' that again has a constant rhythm that would keep you entertained throughout. The folk flavor of 'Kesariya Balam' is heard quite late in the day and when it comes, it peaks the track to an all time high with an effect that would set any stage to rock. Though the beginning of the album wasn't bad at all, with the arrival of 'Raanjhan' and 'Kesariya', the proceedings move to a different level altogether. Track 'Dark Age' which comes in the end lives up to its title as the mood turn really dark with its arrival. The female voice in the background is haunting to say the least while the arrival of 'shehnai' only makes your heart beat go slow even as everything around you is paced heavily. A disturbing track that starts becoming interesting once 'shehnai' is off the hook, it finds another version for itself later in the album too. The album comes with a fixed target audience; the kind that visits clubs/discs practically every weekend. This is not a soundtrack that you would play at your home or even in a fast driven car. Made for the dance floors, it is a delight for the DJs and the young ones who wish to throw a party every now and then.
