It's been a year and a half since her last Bollywood release "Chance Pe
Dance" that Genelia D'Souza made it to the capital to promote her latest
" Force". But despite the gap, a few successful releases down South,
and her presence in five different industries in the country, the
actress says that she's worked hard to dismiss people's perception that
"cute is equal to clueless".
Talking to DT, she said, "To be a good actor, you need to be stripped off your ego and your comfort zone. When I'd just come, there was a perception that being cute is being clueless and I don't know why people associate the two. I love the zone where I play the college girl roles, and that's the only space that I own. But it was important for people to see me in another way and with the role of Maya in "Force" that's the response I'm getting." She further adds, "Some people talk to me and they say, 'Oh, you talk so well but you play this college kid'. And I'm like - what's the comparison? It's like you say blondes are bimbettes. It's the same logic. It's assumed a cute girl will not have brains."
Talk about all the conversation surrounding her marriage and rumoured beau Riteish Deshmukh, and Genelia says, "For the last five years, people have been planning my marriage. Let me plan it and talk about it. I'm not single and I'm not dating." But, she's unwilling to say more as she doesn't want to use her relationship to sell herself. She says, "I give my personal life a lot of dignity. I don't use it to sell me as a brand or as a professional. I wouldn't like to use my personal life for promoting my professional life, and vice versa."
