Super star Shah Rukh Khan, also the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team has packed off his desi cheerleaders who were selected through the much hyped dance reality show on NDTV Imagine called Knights and Angels.

All set to Shine(y) in Hollywood

ShineyBe it the troubled Daya of Gangster or the wily Vikram of Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, actor Shiney Ahuja is known for his intense performances. Well, his histrionics have captured the attention of well-known Hollywood producer James Ordonez, who has signed Shiney for his directorial debut, ‘Silver Cord’. Shiney will be playing an American in his Hollywood debut film unlike many other Indian actors. We spoke to the actor to know more his foray into Hollywood.
Q. What’s the name of your Hollywood film? How did you bag the role?A. The name of the movie is ‘Silver Cord’. I don’t know if I can actually take the credit for getting such a tremendous opportunity. I actually am grateful to the two directors due to whom I could establish myself in Bollywood and now have an opportunity to work in a Hollywood project; Sudhir Mishra and Mahesh Bhatt. If it were not for Gangster, the first film of mine that James Ordonez saw and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, that he saw next, I would not have been offered the role.
Q. Tell us something about your character in the film?A. I am contract bound and cannot disclose anything except to say that I play a pivotal role and, yes, I play an American.
Q. Who are the producers/directors of the movie?A. James Ordonez is the director of the movie. The producers of the film are Mark Canton, of ‘300’ fame and Michael Shane and Anthony Romano. They have produced several well-known films, among them are ‘Catch Me If You Can’ with Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hanks.
Q. Who will be your co-stars in the movie?A. As of now, I can only speak about Val Kilmer.
Q. From when do you expect to start shooting for the movie?A. The film is slated to begin sometime in the last quarter of this year
Q. Do you plan to make a foray into Hollywood with this film? And do you think that you will get diverse roles because of your international looks unlike a few Indian actors who always end up playing Indian/Pakistani characters?A. Honestly, it is too early to think about foraying into Hollywood. I think I would prefer to let things take it’s own course. At this point, I can just take this as a tremendous opportunity that I have to deliver on and therefore keep my focus. Meanwhile, my energies are all directed towards doing great cinema in Bollywood which is my home.
Q. Would you rate your Hollywood break to be one of the best as compared to actors like Aishwarya Rai or Mallika Sherawat?A. It is not fair to compare either of us in this regard. The circumstances, opportunity, roles, projects, that each of us have had are distinct and are fantastic in their own right. And each has a possibility of having a completely unexpected rewarding outcome. Frieda Pinto is a case in point. She has truly done us proud.
Q. What excited you about the film, the script, your role or the team behind the project?A. All three and the opportunity to play a character from different culture. I am looking forward to the experience.
Q. Name a few Hollywood actors and actresses you would like to work with? If any, why would you want to work with them?A. Sean Connery, John Travolta, Brad Pitt, Ben Kingsley, Angelina Jolie, Meg Ryan, Resse Witherspoon; I have an endless list!
Q. Which are your upcoming projects in Bollywood? Tell us something about them? What kind of roles are you playing in those films?A. Right now, it’s Jahanu Barua’s Har Pal. Aside of that I have two other projects but I cannot speak about them as I am contract-bound.

He has remarkable intensity in his eyes which I noticed in the making of COMPANY, a voice which commands attention, an arrogance in his demeanour, an enormous power in his stance, and also a certain vulnerability which makes one instantly warm up to him, which is what is needed to fit in a role of Paritala Ravi’s profile.
“After a rough look-test done and when I saw the approximation of how Vivek could look like in different phases of Ravi’s life, from being a rebel in the jungles to a political strong-arm man, I was absolutely convinced that my search ended.”

'Hollywood is looking up to Bollywood because of people like Akshay Kumar'

Bohemia

Chandni Chowk To China may have ended up as a bad dream for Akshay Kumar but it wasn't so for everyone associated with the film.
Rapper Bohemia made his Bollywood debut with this Nikhil Advani film, and received his share of acclaim. He even bagged another film -- Nagesh Kukunoor's 8x10 Tasveer.
Born Roger David in Karachi, Pakistan, Bohemia shifted base to California, where he started his career in street rap before Bollywood summoned. He spoke to Nithya Ramani about his changing destiny, and life as a Bollywood rapper.
How did you stumble upon Bollywood?
All credit goes to Akshay Kumar for having the vision and the open-mindedness to invite young talent to the film industry. Even Hollywood is looking up to Bollywood, and it's all because of people like Akshay.
Akshay told me that he was a fan of my music. It came to me as a surprise that a huge star like Akshay Kumar was listening to my music. But now that I know him, it's not as surprising.
Rap is a street form and people have different perceptions about it. Do you think your rap in CC2C and Tasveer has changed the perception?
I don't think so. But I may have introduced this genre to a larger audience, who would normally put a stereotypical box over it. To me, rap gives me the opportunity to speak my mind. I consider myself as a street poet and then a rapper. I appreciate the poetry in the lyrics. Being able to put your thoughts to rhythm and a particular beat is called rapping. I have been learning rap ever since I moved to California when I was 12 or 13.
So I have a different vision of rap from the others. The audiences in India would normally discard rap. The same thing happened with pop music. People thought Bappi Lahiri was messing up with music but he was just introducing and changing people's perception.

It's about talent, stupid

photo

First it was India's "rock stars of cricket", and now a bevy of Bollywood beauties has hit Hamilton.
Late-afternoon shoppers at Westfield Chartwell got a sample of the colour, dance and music of the touring Dreamgirls of Bollywood show when dancer Aditi Bhagwat strutted her stuff in the mall, accompanied by tabla player Pandit Kalinath Mishra.
The show's producer, Rama Khanna, said New Zealand was the 29th country the show had visited, and the two Hamilton performances this week followed a successful stint at Auckland's SkyCity.
Mr Khanna described Dreamgirls of Bollywood as a story-based musical aimed at bringing together the memories and themes of Bollywood's past, present and future, and presenting them to an audience beyond the Indian community.
"We had a fantastic response in Auckland, and we're looking forward to a great performance in Founders Theatre," he said.
Mr Khanna said alongside cricket Indian's national sport Bollywood music, cinema and performance was the most followed entertainment in India, and was growing increasingly popular across the world.
"I think Bollywood has even more passion than cricket. We're spreading the Indian culture, and it's mingling with world culture," he said.
Tickets for the shows tomorrow and Thursday are available from TicketDirect.

Meri Padosan Review

Meri PadosanViju (Sanjay Mishra) is a middle class man, a clerk happily married to Kavita (Sadhika). But their happy married life gets disturbed with the arrival of their new neighbours. Amongst them is Shyam Gopal Varma (Sarwar) who is an aspiring filmmaker. With him are his two buddies – Prem who works as a media promoter and Aslam a private bank employee. These three friends’ loud quarrels taking almost every night leaves the peace loving couple annoyed. When Shyam learns through an ad of a TV channel about a contest about a ‘real film’ to be made and submitted, he immediately rushes to the channel office only to learn that he has 500 more competitors. Struggling to find the right subject, when Shyam sees his next door couple engaged in a high strung display of physical affection, he then and there decides to make a ‘real film’ on the real couple but without their knowledge. What chaos it all leads to forms the rest of the film.
Let us get it straight, this film is a C grader aimed at titillating the audience of the smaller centers so one is not expecting any sensible stuff in here. But the makers seem to have taken even their loyal audience in such centers for granted by providing utter rubbish in the name of cinema. Tasteless double intended jokes, pathetic script, non existent direction and bad acting, you name it and you get it all in plenty. The producer Ashok Bagla, to satisfy his acting urge tortures you with his poor attempts at acting by giving himself a role in this film.
Sadhika Randhawa is known better for only one thing – her skin show. Her acting skills are still a doubt despite having been around in the industry for a good decade. Well she does what she is best at. Sanjay Mishra has got his impeccable comic timing right yet again and he is the only reason we have given half a star in the rating. Sarwar Ahuja, the Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj needs to KHOJ (discover) his acting skills as soon as possible or he will be soon extinct. Khayali the laughter challenge dude is simply irritating. Heena Tasleem adds more glam quotient with her hot moves.(Gossips And Movie Review By Bollywood102)
Don’t even think of watching this movie unless you intend to get yourself a paid torture.

'I want to take only bigger steps now'

Bangalore-based Nauman Sait, the winner of MTV's adventure reality show "Roadies: Hell Down Under", says he would love to become as famous as Rannvijay Singh - the winner of the show's first season and also its current host.
"'Roadies' is a huge platform and I surely don't want to go for a dip from here. I want to take only bigger steps now. I'm looking forward to some great offers and getting into Rannvijay's shoes would be amazing - he is so great himself - I would love to do what he is doing," Nauman, a professional cricket player, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
Smitten by the glamour industry, Nauman now looks forward to star in some TV shows and films. "I have played cricket for the past 10 years and have also played as a part of the English Premier League for Yorkshire. But after 'Roadies', I am more inclined towards towards glamour and TV and I'm exploring some options. Previously also, I have done a few modelling assignments but those were mainly print ones," he said.
This 21-year-old's success story was largely due to his luck. When he had gone to audition for the show, he went with his twin brother Salman, an equally deserving candidate, but Nauman was the chosen one. During the show, he was also voted out, but he made a wild card entry during the Australia leg of the show. And in the finale too, he was the one lagging behind the other contestant Kiri, but he walked away with the "Roadies" crown.
Nauman said: "I'm on top of the world. When I joined the show, I didn't know about winning or losing, I was just sure of one thing - that I'm going to give it my best and I tried to do my best in every task. Now that I have won, I finally feel I'm on the road to success.
"My twin brother was happiest for me. Even if he didn't make it, he always wished well for me. I had not told him that I had won and when I saw the smile and happiness on his face when the winner was announced, I was really happy."
Nauman, a B.Com student, says his cricket background helped him immensely in winning the show. "Having played cricket for so long, I knew how to play a team game and also knew the importance of fitness and determination. So in a way, my experience of playing cricket did give me an edge over other competitors," he said. Along with his victory on the show, Nauman has taken home prize money of Rs.362,000 and a Hero Honda Karizma bike. Now he plans to use the money judiciously.
"The happiness of winning the 'Roadies' tag is more than the happiness of winning the money. But keeping in mind the recession, I will use the amount cleverly and for useful purposes. I am planning a big treat for my friends, a good and expensive gift for my family, something for myself and some part of it to charity," Nauman said.
On the show, selected "Roadies" are given bikes to travel on a pre-decided route and assigned difficult physical or rational tasks. A vote-out takes place at the end of every show and whoever survives till the end is declared winner. In its sixth edition, the show had 20 contestants, out of which a few top contestants were taken to Australia for dangerous tasks.

Jaya Prada returns to Bollywood

Trying to recreate history, actress and MP Jaya Prada (pictured left) has signed a film with K.C. Bokadia. The actress and producer-director have given many hits together in the past. Jaya Prada has worked with K.C. Bokadia in films such as “Aaj Ka Arjun” with Amitabh Bachchan, “Main Tera Dushman” and “Insaf Kaun Karega” with Jackie Shroff; “Kundan”, Ganga Tere Desh Mein”, Zulm-o-Sitam” and Maidan-e-Jung” with Dharmendra and “Tyaagi” with Rajnikant.
In their forthcoming film, Jaya Prada is playing the central character. It showcases the journey of a woman from her youth to old age.
Says Jaya Prada, who is currently busy with campaigning for elections: “We have a very comfortable and successful working relationship. Together, we have given really good films, which were hits at the box office. To top it, the role he has offered me is excellent and made for me. It’s giving me a graph where I can really flaunt my artistic ability to the 'T'. This film will show me from a young woman to an old lady. I can really play with the character. I am lucky to have received such an offer. I accepted it immediately.”
Talking more about the film she says: “The story is centered around my character and it is after a long gap that I have received an offer to play such a character. Bokadiaji is a very good director. Our films have been always good and successful. He has made his own identity as a director of good films. I am sure it will be meaningful cinema.”
Asked why she is not seen so often on screen, she replies, "“Why I was not so often seen on screen? Because of my involvement in politics. Then the offers coming my way were not really worth taking the trouble. The role in Bokadiaji's film is tailor made for me. I did not want to do a film just to be seen. ‘Dashavatar’ with Kamal Haasan is out.
“I have been doing more of regional films. My Bengali film with Budhadeb Dasgupta is ready, which is both in Bengali and Hindi. Sharad Hedge’s 'The Desire- Journey of a woman' is also getting ready. In this film I play Shilpa Shetty’s mother. So if I get good roles and stories, I will definitely take on the offer.”

Harman Baweja In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Next ?

The maker of blockbuster films like Devdas and Black, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is awaiting a lead actor for his forthcoming film Chenab Gandhi. When the movie was first floated, it was rumoured that hunky model-turned-actor John Abraham had signed up opposite Vidya Balan, who was confirmed to be the heroine. But then sources whispered that John’s girlfriend actress Bipasha Basu had talked him into turning down the role because of Vidya Balan. John personally shot down the rumours and clarified that while he had met Bhansali, Chenab Gandhi hadn’t figured in the discussion.
All the confusion aside, the movie still lacks a hero and a source reveals that Bhansali might go back to his original choice for the role – Harman Baweja. The shoot for Chenab Gandhi was scheduled to begin in April/May, but has now been postponed to November. Though Harman had been unavailable earlier due to date clashes with Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Rashee?, by November, the actor is expected to be free to shoot for Chenab Gandhi. While this is all speculation, Harman so far has remained unavailable for comment.

Interview- John Abraham

Interview--John-Abraham(It takes a lot to juggle a great acting career with the need for breaking free and biking, but John Abraham has managed to make a mark in both areas.
His down to earth personality goes to show his biker genes and coupled with the drool factor this man draws from the female population, there is no arguing the charismatic personality that John Abraham has come to be. Vikram Gour caught up with John for a quick chat about bikes, cars and movies....yeah, we left the women out this time!
ZW: So, what is the latest addition to your garage? John: I have just bought a Suzuki Hayabusa from Suzuki India. I am back to the bike I love and even when I was getting the delivery of the bike the only condition I laid down was that no one would ride it before me. I wanted to be the person who gets to take the wraps off the bike.
ZW- And just what does your garage contain now? John: Well, there is my Yamaha R1, my newly acquired Gypsy and my Audi Q7, plus the Hayabusa which I just got. ZW- In that case, what is missing from your garage?
John: Hmmm…. I think I need a V-Rod and a V-Max. These bikes would complete my needs I would think, but then again there is always scope right! ZW: How did John Abraham become a biker? John: I must have been ten or eleven years old at the time. My cousin brother bought a bike, namely a CB 750, 4 Cylinder. I was struck by its beauty and wanted to touch it.
When I eventually did touch it, my cousin told me never ever again should I try and touch his bike. I was taken aback at the time, but I decided that one day I would own my own bike. Today I understand his possessiveness over his bike. ZW: And just how many bikes have you owned since you first got yourself a motorcycle?
John- My first bike was an RD 350. I moved onto a Royal Enfield Bullet Machismo when I started working at an advertising agency. I got my first big bike namely my Kawasaki Ninja ZX 11 D2 with money that I had saved plus a portion borrowed as loan from a bank. It was a second hand bike, but it served the purpose of fueling my passion for biking.
I then moved on to a Suzuki Hayabusa after which I got my Yamaha R1 as I was the brand ambassador for the company at the time. Now am back on a Suzuki Hayabusa 2009 edition. ZW- We have spoken in length about John Abraham the biker, what about John Abraham the car guy?
John- I enjoy cars as well, and if you were to ask about a particular brand, then let me tell you that I am sold on the Audi's. I love my Q7 and now I want to upgrade to a V12 powered Q7 later this year. Audi just makes great cars.
ZW- Speaking about movies, what movie sequence, Hollywood or Bollywood, would you rate as a great sequence involving either cars or bikes? John- I recently watched Fast and the Furious Part 4 and the car race sequence was filmed exceptionally well, however when it comes to such movies I will say that part one of this series was really where the action lies and remains the bible. Torque was a bit of a let down in terms of the bike stunts and story line.
ZW- Will we get to see you in any movie involving bikes again? John- Nothing is really on the cards right now, but I sure hope so. In fact thinking about movies on cars and bikes I was planning on a movie based on the Baja 1000. That would be interesting don't you think!
ZW Lastly, what does biking mean for you and what message would you like to give out to your fans and fellow riders?
John: Biking is about a brotherhood, about independence and freedom. It is an expression of one's freedom and I just love it. As for as my fans and fellow riders-two words-Be Safe! Safety is essential and that is something that any great rider should always keep in mind.

Fero ze Khan no more

On Monday evening, when Feroze Khan was laid to rest at the Johnson Market Burial Ground, his family and friends were grieving but content in one knowledge: their Shah Bhai had lived life kingsize and to the full.

Fero ze Khan no more

Feroze’s remains were buried near his late mother Fatima, in keeping with his wish, as close relatives, family and friends gathered in Bangalore bid adieu to the king of style. “Feroze was very close to his mother Bibi Fathima. He was the apple of her eye,” Akbar Khan, Feroze’s brother, said. “He was our brother, father and friend,” he added.
The man, who loved horses, had grown up in Bangalore on action-packed films, idolising stars like Douglas Fairbanks and Clark Gable. He had returned recently from Mumbai, the city that made his dreams come true, to his home, Bangalore, so that he could spend his last days here. Mirza Muhammad Mehdi and Dr Sajjad Mirza, Feroze’s neighbours from Cooke Town remembered how Feroze had gone to Mumbai early on and had supported his entire family.“
The entire family had migrated from Hyderabad to Bangalore in search of work and at that time, we had stayed in the same building as them.” When he breathed his last at his farmhouse, his son Fardeen Khan and some close relatives were by his side. His brothers Sanjay Khan, Akbar Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Sameer Khan and sister Dilshad Bi, attended the funeral.
Sanjay Khan remembered his brother as a person who brought a new style to the film industry and was stylish in his personal life as well. “He was flamboyant. When he walked into a congregation, he lit up the whole place,” Sanjay Khan said.

Actor Hrithik Roshan, who is married to Sanjay Khan’s daughter Suzanne Khan, and his filmmaker father Rakesh Roshan were also there to pay their last respects to the director. T-series Chairman Kishen Kumar and actress Celina Jaitley also came to the funeral. Feroze’s contribution to the Shia community was remembered at the funeral.
The Muazzan of Masjid E Askari, Mir Momin Abbas, who performed Feroze’s funeral rites said, “Feroze was Shia community’s big leader and had helped the community at various occasions.” “I love speed and thrill,” Feroze Khan had said once. And true to this, the “Clint Eastwood of Bollywood” brought the ‘Westerns’ to Hindi cinema with horses, cowboy hats, stallions and boots.
The last moghul of the film industry, as filmmaker Mahesh Bhat called him, also had a way with the leading ladies of his time be it Nargis, Hema Malini or Zeenat Aman. Feroz, who was last seen in the 2007 comedy Welcome, is survived by his actor son Fardeen and daughter Laila.

His last wish to re-make his greatest hit Qurbani, remains unfulfilled. Born on September 25 1939 to an Afghan father and an Iranian mother the actor made his debut in 1960 with Didi. But the actor was best remembered for the 1980 blockbuster Qurbani opposite Zeenat Aman.
The actor was known for his fascination for horses and was at his stylish best astride a stallion and slinging a gun. He raised racing horses in his farm house in Bangalore where he breathed his last. “I just love to see them run,” he often said. Feroze Khan’s favourite sport was hunting till 1973 and he would always tell friends how he shot 14 panthers and narrowly missed a tiger once and was happy about it.

Bollywood remembers Feroz Khan

Friend, mentor, excellent human being and real royal of Hindi cinema - that is how Bollywood remembers Feroz Khan, the filmmaker-actor who died after a year-long battle with cancer.
Writer-turned director Anees Bazmee, who directed Feroz Khan in his last film Welcome in 2007, is "heartbroken" to hear of the death."I have come back to Mumbai this morning and got to know about his death. It is very sad and I am heartbroken. He was very close to me and an extremely good human being. I used to be in regular touch with him," Bazmee said.
Welcome, which was a massive hit, was a special homage to Feroz Khan's stylish on-screen persona through his character Ranbir Dhanraj Xata (RDX)."Nobody knows that he was not willing to work in Welcome but he loved my previous film No Entry and Fardeen's (Feroz Khan's son) role in it so much that we became very good friends and he agreed to work in the film just for me.
"But he also asked me to make sure that his style was kept intact in the movie, as he has always done roles with oomph and glamour and that's why I even gave him a line Abhi hum zinda hain in the film, which he infused life into," said Bazmee.Beauty queen-turned-actress Celina Jaitley, who was launched by Feroz Khan in his home production's Janasheen (2003), headed to Bangalore Monday to pay her last respects.
"Farewell my friend, my mentor... The many things we talked about... The many things I learnt from you are with me as my courage, you have gone but the love and support you gave me remains as a part of my heart... I wait for the day we will meet again back in god's hand where it all began. Love always, your 'Celine'," Celina said.
Feroz was also remembered by music composer Anand Raj Anand and writer Kamlesh Pandey for launching new talent.Apart from Celina, he introduced Meghna Kothari and his son Fardeen in Prem Aggan (1998) and Vicky Arora in Yalgaar (1992) to name a few.
"He was a very stylish and straightforward person. He was principled and loyal to people. He always helped people with talent and made them famous. He did not just go for established names, which was a great thing in him," said Anand."He gave me confidence when he signed me for Janasheen and now we were working together on the remake of Qurbani, but it is so unfortunate what has happened," he added.
Said scriptwriter Pandey, who wrote the dialogues for Janasheen: "He was one of the royals of our cinema. Everyone knows how to make money, but very few know how to spend it and he knew that style exactly. He was an excellent friend, a great human being and he used to treat people very well.
"He also enjoyed good writing a lot. He was someone who had his own personality. The way he shot his films, his music, everything was great. He also looked for new talent," he added.

Akshay Kumar to grow his Beard Full-Length to play Sikh in Deepa Mehta’s Film

Akshay KumarAfter the furore that was raised over the apology of a beard that Akshay Kumar sported as a Sikh in Anees Bazmi’s Singh Is Kinng, Akshay Kumar is taking no chances.
For the role of the real-life Sardarji who sailed in the fateful ship named Kamagata Maru from Hong Kong to Vancouver in 1914, Akshay is taking no chances.
He’ll grow the beard to the size stipulated by the Sikh community before plunging into the role in January 2010.
In fact the actor, smarting undrr the attack he faced for his improper beard length in Bazmi’s bearded burlesque has this time decided to set aside all his assignments for Kamagata Maru to avoid continuity clashes with other projects.
Says Deepa, “Akshay is so amazing. Considering he has so much work on hand I was surprised when he absolutely insisted on growing a full-length beard. One of the reasons I postponed Kamagata Maru to to next year was so that Akshay would be able to block an entire chunk of dates for my film and keep the beard. I was very sure that I didn’t want him for a month and then return with a false beard and finish my film. It’s very important for actors to respect continuity. That’s the only way to work.”
Deepa saw Akshay Kumar play a Sardar in Singh Is Kinng before casting him in Kamagata Maru. “I thought he made a very good Sardar. He has a very Panju-Sardar look. Akshay has to play a 48-year old Sardar. And he’s absolutely fine with a salt-and-pepper beard.”
“Akshay is also the film’s producer along with my life partner David Hamilton, so his interest in the film is very very deep,” says Deepa.
Post the fiasco that’s Chandni Chowk to China Akshay Kumar is also counting on converting his comic currency into something more compelling and enduring.
According to Deepa, Akshay Kumar will be seen in a completely non-comic serious and politically profound role in Kamagata Maru.
“Five years ago Akshay was completely ready to transform his image in Water when he was to play the Gandhian reformist. The role in Kamagata Maru is far more challenging.” - Subhash K Jha

Neha Dhupia paired opposite Vinay Pathak

She made her debut as a sexy bombshell, but has lately shifted gears and is opting for meaningful cinema with colder-to-life characters. Now, she has paired opposite Vinay Pathak (a favorite in off-beat cinema) for the role of a back row dancer in her forthcoming film ‘Pappu Can’t Dance Saala’.

Neha did a thorough research on back dancers before embarking on the role. She met and interacted with them on a close level because she wanted to know the kind of lifestyle they had. She also opted for a red colored hair because she noticed that all those back dancers that she had met had that color. She also observed that most back row dancers had a habit of chewing gums while waiting for the shot on the sets. So, she adopted that style for her character too.
With so much of effort going in, we hope that the character comes to life and Neha comes back into limelight with a superhit.
